The County Assembly of Kiambu (CAK)

Article 176 of the Constitution establishes the County Assembly (CA) which consist of Hon. Members elected by the registered voters of the Wards. The County consists of 60 Wards. The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) are elected during General Elections, being the second Tuesday in August, in every fifth year.

CAK consists of eighty six (86) Members, who include 60 Ward Representatives, twenty six (26) members nominated by the Assembly political parties according to their proportional representation in the CA to represent special interests groups, that include, persons living with disabilities, minorities and the youth, and the Hon. Speaker elected by the Hon. Members.

The Assembly is located in Kiambu Town opposite the Kiambu Police Station.

The CA is the Legislative Arm of the County Government responsible with Representation of its people, formulation of laws that regulate the conduct and activities within the County, and further Oversight the County Government.

The MCAs also sit in various Committees of the Assembly which are essentially the engine rooms of the legislature where they exhaustively deliberate on issues, which enable the Assembly to consider matters before resolutions are made in the plenary.
The Speaker is the head of the legislature and presides over the plenary sittings of the County Assembly.
